Is Bit Bridge really offline?
Yes. Bit Bridge makes no network requests whatsoever. You can turn off Wi-Fi, unplug ethernet, and every conversion still works — because all of it happens on your Mac using Apple's built-in frameworks.
What can it convert?
Images (PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, HEIC, AVIF, ICO, GIF, PSD, TGA, JPEG 2000, ICNS), video (MP4, MOV, M4V), audio (AAC, M4A, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC), documents (TXT, Markdown, HTML, RTF, DOCX, PDF), data (CSV, TSV, JSON), subtitles (SRT, WebVTT) and archives (ZIP, TAR, GZIP, XZ, BZIP2) — over 275 conversions in total.
Why are some formats import-only?
macOS can read certain formats but has no built-in encoder for them, so Bit Bridge accepts WebP, HEIF, AVI (macOS-supported codecs), MP3, JPEG XL and camera RAW as inputs and converts them to a fully supported format. EPUB is export-only. Bit Bridge also asks macOS at launch what this particular Mac can encode, so it never offers a conversion your machine can't actually perform. Any Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on both Apple silicon and Intel.
What data does Bit Bridge collect about me?
